besides supporting the operations and maintenence of this forum (which is fair enough), what else would I be supporting for HAAS by clicking the donate button?

I have some curiousity of what takes place at meetings and I hope they pertain to something educational but have gotten the impression it's just a chance to swap stuff...no offense but...ehhh.

Is there anything issued once you become a member that you use to get backstage per se?

can I be of any help with design work or web stuff?

I am sure you could be of use backstage!

We have leadership meetings and general meetings. The next leadership meeting is on the 14th. The general meeting is the next week (21st). There is always a program at the meeting. Sometimes it is a video, sometimes a speaker. We have scheduled club speakers to talk at every meeting this year. We also plan on having outside speakers come in. I have found the meetings to be educational.

Of course, there is trading that goes on at the meeting. There is also a mini-auction where the proceeds are donated to the club to help offset the cost of the meeting room.

A membership gets you a discount at a lot of pet stores in the city. You can also participate in the Breeders Award Program.

Then, as a side note, there is the forum to throw ideas around.

Can anyone else add anything here?

Oh, I can add to this . . .

Our club is hosting the MCA convention this year. We have 3 auctions a year. We are also planning field trips such as fish room tours, and wild collecting trips. I would like to see a trip to collect live food sources.

I have borrowed books from members that I didn't want to buy at the time, or couldn't find for sale.

I'm also participating in the BAP challenge, where I am given 6 fry and the challenge is to raise them to adulthood and spawn them in 12 months.

Currently I'm working on the BAP (Breeders Award Program). I have the least amount of points, but everybody had better watch out, because my fish are spawning like crazy!

It's fun, it's a hobby, and these guys don't look at you cross-eyed when you talk about this stuff.

It's only $12, where else can you get such a bargain for that price?

Okay, I won't add any more. I'll leave that to someone else!

HAP(the BAP for plants, soon to come out, you'd be on the bottom floor with the rest of us when we implement it!)
worth the price of admission.

The $12 is saved after a few trips to some local pet shops where the 10% H.A.A.S. discount applies. (as well as one online retailer now)

If I had never gone to a meeting, or traded with anyone, or given anything to be auctioned, or used by discount at a petshop, or.... or..... the $12 STILL would have been well spent just for all the information and help received on this forum from local members who share your water

that's cool, I'm a member now...like I said, access to the forum is benefit enough, just wanted to get the whole run down. I'll start easing my way into some of the projects.

You can get whatever you want out of membership. It is really limited only to your willingness to and ability to participate. The discount is no big deal, some like the meetings some don't, some like auctions some don't that all is very personal and up to the individual but the benefits of the connecting to the people in the group is a very big deal. A great valve for $ 12 if you take advantage of the opportunities the group provides, that is up to you.

Welcome on becoming an official HAAS member.
Visiting and getting to know the different people and putting a face on a handle is an important benefit for me.

so, I wanted to use my discount at a LPS this weekend but I haven't received a membership card after donating through paypal. Am I just being impatient? Is there a card coming in the mail?

my gf and I paid at the last meeting and just received our cards this week. It probably just takes awhile to get em ready and out. We dont have a full time staff that works for the club or anything so somebody must do it when they get a break from their busy lifestyle. If its anything like mine it could take awhile to find the time. Just be patient and Im sure it will come. I know its hard when there is discounts to be had and tons of stuff to buy.

Ernest, shoot me a PM with your contact info. I can get you a card out right away. We haven't perfected our online process yet. Ron is out of the country and he has the keys to the paypal account - he is probably in Fiji or somethingSmile You can shoot me an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
