I was getting ready to change water in my 90 Discus tank.
Lo and behold my Cobalt Blue Discus's have laid a nice clutch of eggs. Mom and Dad are protecting the eggs against all comers.
I don't expect to find any eggs in the morning once my royal pleco realizes the eggs are in there.

Purchased this tank from JackD looks like some of his BAP magic came with the tank.

Great I hope sometime they are good parents and raise a few for you. It is a fun thing to experience. I have some babies today but they will be probably be gone in the morning. Congrats, good luck and if me having own the tank before you helped, yea right, you are welcome.

After things settle down in the tank I'm going to take the pair out and give them their own tank.

These are the discus I got from one of Dallas's friends.
She got them from J Taylor originally.

well here they go again!

The fertile pair has again laid a nice clutch on the Emperor 400 intake tube.

The lower nitrates in their tank must be the reason, every water change. 3 days after and more eggs.

setting up a seperate tank where I will be moving the happy couple shortly . Would like to see if I could get one of these clutch's to hatch..... Any discus breeders on this forum?

What do you suggest bare bottom or heavily planted brdr tank? Any suggestions for the set up or constructive comments will be appreciated ...

BTW its a 100 gal tank that I will be using . Should I set up a seperate tank for the fry eventually? size for this tank?

My mentor Mac kept his discus in bare bottom tanks with few decorations and a couple of cones or pots for the fish to lay the eggs on. Filtration was just a box filter with peat in it with only Sunshine brand peat in the filters and a sponge filter to two. He used mainly 40 breeders and raised as many discus as Jack Taylor in his basement years ago. PH around 6.4 no other water measurements. Fry stayed with the parents until they were about nickel to quartter sized. Good luck I hope they raise babies for you.

He aged his water in gallon milk jugs and changed about 10% each week one gallon at a time. He raised brine shrimp in 5 gallon acid bottles inverted with the bottom cut out of them. Very cool memories.

Not a discus breeder, but I'm currently growing out some fry I bought from JackD and then some more I bought. They are in a 40 gallon breeder bare bottom. I'm running 4 sponge filters and the tank receives 50% water change twice a week. Have a total of 10 fry in there.
Probably should do more water changes, but I don't have the water storage capacity at this time.
The fry are fed Australian blackworms, frozen bloodwordms, beef heart flake, frozen beef heart. Try to have food available for them all day. I keep the tank close to 90 degrees.

If it was me I would keep the 100gallon for the fry grow out tank and get a smaller tank for the discus to breed in.

A good site for information is forum.simplydiscus.com/index.php

Good luck with the fry.

Thank you.. the parents are quite large 7-8" body diameter
I have a 40 breeder but that looks too shallow? I'm going to have to re-think this as I come from a state of mind anything under a 90 is too small..
