I finally managed to get some fry from my Belonesox, the canabalistic little punks, a year after getting them. I also got fry from my Tiger Limias, which is a very nice new species from Central America.
These are my next BAP priorities for this year: - Corydoras sterbai - Betta albimarginata - Dicrossus filamentosus - Taeniacara candidi - Haplochromis sp. 'Kenya Gold' I also have eggs from 2 other species of Nothobranchius, N. guentheri & N. korthausae, that are in storage now & will be able to hatch around October 1. Including the first 2, if I can get 6 of the above 7 done, I'll acheive the Master Breeder level (by MASI rules). My next mission with HAAS: get the killifish class. Has anyone actually done that before? |

I don't think we have had any killifish breeders since the BAP got going strong again here. Patty has done a few and others have interest. That is one of the fun things about the BAP is you can go where no HAAS fishkeeper has gone before. I still have a couple male albimarinata if you need more stock, not sure i still have a female.

my wife has been wanting to do killies for quite a while now. I think she is goin to hurry up and finish the livebearer class, then try her hand at some killies. I know the first one she wants is Nothobranchius rachovii. She said something about a strain that is more black, but i dont know im not a killie guy. They are very cool looking though, just not enough personality for me.

N. rachovii is my favorite killifish and quite possibly the most gorgeous fish there is. That was the first killie I ever kept, and I BAP'd them at the last meeting. I did the "Beira '98" variety, which is the most popular because of its vibrant colors. I've seen the Black variety, which comes from a different location. They're cool, but just can't compare in my oppinion. If she'd like some of mine, I have another batch of eggs I'll be hatching soon.

I have 165 pts presently officially & will be at 185 next meeting when I take the Limias & Belonesox. The Notho. eggs I have in storage are worth 45 pts once they're hatched (one is a CARES species). So, then I just need 70 pts to make it to 300, which I'll get if I do 4 out of 5 of the others (to give myself a safety net).
I thought some of you out there might be interested in the Haplochromis. However, if you're not familiar with these, you might be disappointed to learn that the Kenyan Golds are a litle 1.5" dwarf species! Sorry, ha ha. |
