It is almost an impossible shot. The cave is only an inch in diameter and the eggs are tiny plus guarded but dad but there is a cluster of greenish eggs under dad. Very cool discovery. Tempted to remove the cave to eliminate some variables of losing the fry into the tank of possible predators. Stoked to find these. Jack |

I moved the male and the eggs into a 10 gallon for privacy. Hoping I did not mess things up moving him but was afraid the babies might get eaten in the other tank. Time will tell. Thanks for the commnents.

I think you did the right thing. Here's hoping they hatch for you.

They are hatching. Seems like they are kind of slow but three out and about a dozen more to go. I am hoping they will all get out. They look good but you never know. Dad kicked these out when they started moving i guess. They were out of the cave this morning he may have gotten nervous and booted them.

Jack, congrats......seeing all these spawning posts by you.
We can no longer say you have a fish room, it's a maternity ward! |

They struck again. Not sure if it is the same male and female or not but I have another little clutch of green eggs in a different tube. Wow! The first batch is growing. They are still tiny but bigger than they were.

I was curious how many fry you got to hatch. If you didn't get a lot, I might suggest leaving them with the father. I heard Ingo Siedel speak last year & he mentioned fish in this family. Sometimes the father with gently chew the eggs to assist in hatching. Not sure if that applies to this species, but it's worth considering. Good Luck!

Thanks, I left them with the male but he kicked them out just before or just as they hatched. I did not remove him until some were out of the eggs and the eggs were out of the tube. I think almost all of them made it out eventually just not that many eggs in the spawns i have seen so far. Thanks for the input. They are an interesting species.
