Well I can't take credit for this because I've only had the fish for a week, but I now have a 3rd holding female saulosi.
I have NO fry yet. I'll kep you posted Well new Update. I have FRY!!!!!! at least 8 maybe more. I even got the mother out and put her in a recovery tank. I would guess #2 will release anyday. #3 should take about 2 weeks or so. I actually have not pulled her out of the main tank. I will this week. |

I told you that guy was fiesty! He's constantly chasing tail! You might have to pull him once he impregnates all of them, or he might turn to the lab females. I don't know if that's an actual possibility, but if it is, I think he, of all fish, would. lol

Talk about FIESTY.
I now have 4 holding females. 1 that just had fry. about 12 maybe a few more. So since I got them from Jargon. All 5 femles have been holding. Still waiting on the Mainganos to hold. |

Even the one with the missing gill cover is holding? I'm so proud! lol I was hoping she was healthy enough to lead a full and active lifestyle!

I am glad to see they're doing well. Equally glad to see all those females get to spit fry that won't immediately get eaten by the rest of the Africans.

I now have 2 seperate tanks of Saulosi Fry. I have 3 females holding.
No Maingano's holding yet, but I have seen some activity. I just revamped my main 75g. So that has confused everyone, but hopefully soon. My black Acei the largest one is for sure big enough, but I think the others need to grow some. My blue Acei are now in one of my 75g So I'm hoping they will grow a little quicker. |

I moved both sets of Fry to a 20g Long. Must be at least 40 all together. They are eating well and growing well. I use Ocean Nutrition Veg formula, mixed with some sprinala flakes I( all crushed very fine).
I was doing water changes last night and another holding female had spit, but gobbled them up before I could get her out. I've decided not to strip them so I'll wait another day or two and pull her when she spits. The 4th female probably will spit any day now also. The 5th holding female I'm guessing will spit in about 10 to 13 days. So when all said and done I'm guessing about 80 to 100 Saulosi Fry. As soon as they are big enough I will donate some to the BAP. On a Side note, My revamped Main 75g, with Saulosi, Black Acei, Maingano, Red Zebra, couple of yellow labs) looks very nice. I think it will look even better when I add all the female saulosi. I'm going to let the females recover in a 29g and add them back at the same time. Jargon something interesting has happened. Remember you had the ONE male Saulosi that was the most dominant. I think being in the 75g has given more room vs the 55g and Now I have 2 DOMINANT males. You can't hardly tell them apart both vibrant color. The 3rd sub dominant male just has a pale blue color and just trys to stay out of the others way. |

There were always two dominants, and one subdominant that never fully colored up. The two dominants were easy to tell apart, however, as Bull (the alpha) was always slightly more vibrant than the other, so I'm assuming the extra room has given them space enough that Bull doesn't care whether or not the other guy colors up fully. Good stuff!
oh by the way I want to see pics of the revamped 75 with the red zebras and mainganos in togehter! |

I have one female back in the main tank, I have 3 in a 29g, and one still holding in a 10g.
I combined 2 sets of fry in a 20 long, And I have 2 seperate sets in a 15gs. I plan on releasing all the females back into the main tank at the same time. |
