I got two Telmatochromis temporalis "Mzwema" from Otto about a month ago. I put them in my 100 gallon Tangynikan community tank, where they started beating up all the other fish, and claimed about 5 foot of a six foot tank. At first they did not stay near each other, but about a week and a half ago they dug out a pit with a shell in it, and started defening only about 2 feet of the tank. This morning I saw a bunch of little fry hopping along the bottom near the shell in the pit. I am going to pick up some frozen baby brine today to start feeding them.
Once I can grow them out, and turn them in, this will complete the Old World cichlid class for me! (I have a lot of BAP spawns, but no completed classes yet.) The funny part is, I sold these fish last week, and am just holding them now until they are picked up. (MRC_KC, I can now say for sure this is a pair...) |

Some times it just pays to be lucky. Sell the fish and get the spawn. Must be a feel prety good. Hope you can save enough fry to claim them an finish the class. Time to hit the New Worlds.

I am pretty excited about it. In a week or so I am going to tear down the 100 gallon tank and catch some of other fish in it, so this is actually good timing. I am probably going to keep going on the africans for a while, since 3 mouthbrooders and 3 substrate spawners are required for the class. I currently have 15 mouthbrooders, and this will make 3 substrate spawners. If I continue spawning the substrate spawners for a while, I can get an advanced or specialist breeder certificate for the class.
The good news is that my wife and I are looking at houses right now, and if we get one with a basement, I can expand my fish operation a bit, and give the New World cichlids some attention too! |

A house would be very cool. Let us know if you get one and need help.

Congrats on the spawn, but what are these "classes" you are referring to?

Sweet
Must have got them thinking when you told them they had been sold... So they gave you a going away gift... Mike |

And I will share the love by bringing some for one of the mini auctions...
The rest get to take their chances with the fish in the tank once I pull the parents. Although, if they are as fiesty as thier parents, they might make it... |

I have at least a 100 fry. They just keep spawning and if any are being ate, I sure can't tell. It looks like they might make good feeders.
