TOPIC: Planning 2011 Programs

Planning 2011 Programs 1 year, 5 months ago #32907

It's getting time where we are starting to plan our programs for next year, 2011. What we need from you, our members and guests, is to know what YOU want as far as guest speakers and programs next year.

So, list a few things you are interested in, that you'd like to see us try and bring in speakers about. If you don't give us ideas, Walter said he's going to bring in speakers to talk about how tough it was back in the old days.

For an example, here's my list:

1. Apistogramma
2. Underwater habitats
3. Fishroom design and planning

I'm not real sure what we have planned for the rest of the year. Is there somewhere I can find the programs for the remainder of 2010?

I'd like to hear someone speak about:
1. Planted Tanks
2. Nano Tanks
3. Live foods (I think NWAAS did this not too long ago)

With possibly more ideas to come...

How about a talk on the various tank filtration systems and the pros and cons of each... like Power Filters, Sponge Filters, Under Gravel filters... mechanical vs chemical vs biological. How should you clean/maintain your filters. How a sump works... and anything else related to filtration.

I'm gonna bump this up. Give us some ideas folks! Without your input, we can't improve!

Here are my ideas for topics....

1) Angel Fish
2) Discus
3) Pleco's
4) Live food
5) AGING TAP WATER for beginners and what you need to know about your city water and how to combat it.
6) Heating and Filtration
7) Sick fish and possible "Fixes" or meds.
8) medium to large scale Air pumps / systems for multiple tank set ups.

How is that for a list? My list might be "BASIC" but I would like to know more about these subjects and sometimes a refresher course is not bad for even the seasoned vets IMO.

As a newbie I LOVE the idea of people coming and talking about the filtration that they use.
Are those expensive canister filters worth it? How good is the ol' Under Gravel Filter? Stuff like that.

I wish we could have snagged Spencer Jack and had a special meeting this weekend since he is on OK for their meeting. Seems like a guy like that would try to book more than one gig when he came into the country. Maybe some other time. Wonder if anyone speaking at MCA would run down and talk to us? Something to think about for futute planning.
