Last week I removed 3 zebra danios and 6 albino corys from my son's 10 gallon aquarium. Now he has six white cloud mountain minnows and the three baby syno he bought at the January auction. And a limpet explosion!

I have pea puffers that would make quick work of them but would also attack the minnows for sport. I have a couple endlers and a couple two month-ish swordtail fry keeping my QT tank cycled, would either of those eat the limpets? I hate to move the danios back, they are so much happier in the 29 gallon.

Or we could run out and buy something (as in fish) to add to the tank. I was going to get him some larger white cloud mountain minnows - will they eat the limpets if they are big enough? If not anyone have any suggestions for tank mates that will eat these little guys and not the minnows? A handful don't bother me, but there are seriously at least 30-50 in his tank.

I think anything that would be a snail eater would go for them. So, pufferes and loachs would be the best bet. I don't know that much about them, but that would be my guess.

Thanks Mike! I tried pulling them off the side (impossible) and wiping them off with a washcloth (I just rubbed them around). I think I will order some assassin snails, maybe one or two for each tank (except the pea puffer tank). From what I have read they should take care of them and stay small enough for a 10 gallon.

I had quite a problem figuring out what you were talking about. After some searches I think you are talking about a small snail. I would guess that they will get bigger. There are several small loaches that would take care of them. You could let them grow to see if they develope a hard shell.
From what I read Limpets are usually in a salt water setup.
I have never seen a freshwater limpet that I know of.
Didn't you post about some eggs a while ago? Someone did and they thought they were pond snails. Could this be small pond snails?

Sorry about that Walter. And yes, that was me with the snail eggs These are what I have now (you'll have to scroll down to see the photo).
Since freshwater limpets, Acroloxus lacustris, are so small and also move really slowly, it might be hard to identify them as snails. They are small and can't do much damage to plants, but since they are small, it's impossible to find and remove eggs and the baby snails. Harmless.
So I guess they are very small snails. I don't mind them, but I was alarmed because Thursday there were none and Friday they were everywhere! I had a few in the 10 gallon I added the pea puffers to; they ate them within an hour and I haven't seen any since. That is the same tank the pond snail eggs were in and I assume the puffers ate those too.

This is in a different tank. I'll have to talk to Tony to make sure he isn't feeding the fish too often and enabling the snail population. The best cure in this case might just be prevention

I think I saw those at the Lake when i was kid. I always thought they were baby mussels, we called them clams.
You might try raising the temperature and see if they don't die on their own.
I don't know much about them. That is a neat web site. I have been there before.
