me again, I noticed the male of my mated pair of Double Dark angelfish started getting fin rot pretty bad. I removed the carbon and did my first dose of Melafix last night. I did another after i got home about an hour ago and I noticed the slime coating looked like it was peeling. I might mention that it does not appear the double dark angelfish have any scales, but more like a "SKIN" and was wondering if maybe that has anything to do with the "Peeling" that took place. I am going to add the carbon and do a 75% water change to try and get most of the Melafix out of the water.
Has anyone that has raised double Dark Angels come across this before or is this normal? thanks, Dennis B |

is this the same tank the discus was in? if not did any equipment get shared between tanks?

Separate tank as the Discus tank. The double dark pair is in their own 20 gal High tank. Before moving from one tank to another I run extremely hot tap water through the gravel vac and buckets. I soak all nets into a High concentration solution of water and super Ick cure. Today the Fish look as good as the day I got them with the exception of the Fin rot on the male. It looks like things will be fine and I may end up waiting for the meds to be removed through activated carbon and water changes before attempting another type of fin rot medication.

I would do constant daily water changes and use no meds unless other problems start appearing.
The shedding of the mucus (had it with cories)is usually a water quality issue, whether not vacuumed, high ammonia/nitrites/nitrates, water company changed something, etc. The water changes will help if done properly, aged, aerated, conditioned. If you keep this up for a week or two, along with proper nutrition, the fish's immunity will take care of fixing the issue. Both my angels had their fins nipped by the dicrossus. I was pretty concerned about an infection or fin rot as the nipped fins had a bit of whitish coloring developing around the edges. The fins have since healed and started to develop the "trailers?" on the tips of their fins. |
