TOPIC: Would like someone to look at my fish

Would like someone to look at my fish 1 year, 6 months ago #31955

If anyone is out and about near Raytown (63rd & Sterling) tonight or this weekend I would really like someone with more experience to come by and check out my fish. I have some weird stuff going on with some of them and would feel a lot better if someone could check them out. Some of my fish look dirty (have for months) but no rhyme or reason as far as spices or tanks. Plus now I think some of them might be getting mouth fungus but can't tell if it's just from fighting or actual fungus. (not necessarily the same ones that look dirty) Again several tanks with no clear reasoning.

I would really appreciate it.

Just give me a call/text 816.799.7136

Thanks
Brett

Ok, well what works best to cure mouth fungus? I have Pimafix (pimenta racemosa), Melafix (melaleuca), Maroxy, Maracyn-two, Maracide, & Penicillin. Will one of these do the trick or do I need to get something else? Should I combine a few, what works best...?

I have one or two fish in each tank that are showing signs. Should I remove the infected fish and place them all in a quarantine tank for treatment or do I need to treat each tank?

Also, I'm not sure why the sudden out break. Any ideas as to why/how I would have multiple tank break outs all at the same time? I guess I have been moving and adding filters a lot trying to build up the bio so when (if) I get my new tank set up I hopefully won't have to go through a whole cycle? I guess thats how it spread but what caused it originally?

Thanks

I am not sure you have fungus. If you do it will look a little like cotton. Some fish as they mature get to fighting Locking lips and their month turns kind of white. I have had good luck with Melafix or Permafix.
Most of us tend to over treat our fish without a proper diagnoses.
I like a water change as the 1st thing I do. Salt is the 2nd approach I take. If you want me too, I will try and come over tomorrow.

Brett, The best thing to do is water changes. Bigger is better. I'd drain it down to about 10% then double the water back ever couple hours if you are worried about shocking the fish. The big dose of freshwater will really help out. Then think about meds if the symptoms are still persistent. I have found I do more harm than good with meds.

Just wanted to say thanks to Walter for coming by and checking out my fish. I feel a lot better now knowing they're fine. Saved me from treating them when they didn't need it. Thanks Walter!

What did Walter have to say about them?

Re:Would like someone to look at my fish 1 year, 6 months ago #32090

Well he didn't think they had mouth fungus and thought it was just from them fighting. I just wasn't sure b/c it seemed to suddenly appear on a few different ones in a few different tanks and I don't ever see them fighting. But then again I have been moving a lot of fish around to make room for the new tank.

The other issue with some of them looking like they have a dirty film on them he said was normal. Since I haven't been doing this very long I just assumed all fish were created equal and should all look like the perfect specimen like you would see in a book or on line but guess not. Some of mine look really good and other not as good and it wasn't so much I thought something was wrong with them but that maybe I needed to tweak the water or adjust their diet or something but it's just the way they look.
