TOPIC: Free Wisteria (Hygrophilia Difformis)

I'm bringing a big bundle to the meeting. So first person to respond gets it at the meeting. Otherwise it's going in the trash!

i have to ask since i just picked up some for a couple of bucks at the lfs.

They told me that i could split it from areas where roots are growing out. Ive got some that look like they have more than one root cluster along the height of the plant. Any word to this? Any handling/growing tech u guys can share with me?

first plants besides java moss....

You probably could. Mine gets really tall and then I cut it. I would wait until it got to the top of your tank and cut about 4" off of it.

wysteria is one of the easiest plants to propegate, you can split the roots, snip the stems, and my favorite is to simply lay the whole stem down on its side and weigh it down with a bit of gravel on the stem and the leaves of one side all sticking out. It'll take a week or so to acclimate to this, and then every single leaf node will become its own plant. (I remembered doing this with tomatoes when I lived in Texas and grew them there, and the wysteria plant reminded me of a tomatoe plant so I tried it... low and behold it worked!)

There have even been several reports of people accidentally breaking a single leaf off the plant and laughingly just shoving that back into the substrate and it grew. This plant is (in my eyes) the single hardest to mess up plants. Unless you count the plant taking over your house "messing up" with it

perfect.

i had a bunch of stray bunches a couple of inches long, i planted them all in the substrate(pool filter sand). hopefully, i can not screw this up:angry:

After one day, the plant already looked more green than at the lfs.

You will get different shaped leaves from the top to the bottom of the plant. It won't take over your house. I like Wisteria!
