TOPIC: Pictures of randomness

Pictures of randomness 3 years, 2 months ago #1744

I snapped a few extra shots that didn't really belong in my BAP challange thread or the Planted tank thread so I thought I'd show them in one thread. I'll explain what they are with each pic...

First up...

This is a closeup of some anubias I got and recently added to my growout tank. I love this stuff and I need to find a place to get several types of anubias for cheap to add to this tank. Such a great plant that's pretty, easy to care for, and best of all? EASY TO MOVE! Just grab the wood or stone it's on and move it lol. This is a closeup. Each leaf is about the size of my pinky nail.

next...

This is my second attempt at an emersed setup. The first wasn't quite a success... This one with the glosso, however... is going quite well. You'll see all the new growth springing up nicely among the older, larger leaves that were planted and are all dying off. This was, of course, expected as they were submersed leaves, but I think at this point the submersed (dying) leaves are outnumbered by the new emersed growth.

next....

You'll see two things in this photo. Firstly, I think it's probably the best shot I've gotten thus far of my little cherry shrimp. Two at once, and they're almost in focus! Razz Second, you'll see my little experiment with the moss. I got two pieces of wood (sticks) and wrapped some waltermoss (java) around both. One of them I tied off with fishing line. The other, I used some netting that I made out of the remains of a shower scrubby from Walmart all taken apart. If you work with moss, or riccia a lot this is one of the best purchases you'll make. It was $0.97 for the scrubby and once you take it apart it's like 14' of the stuff! Go on E-bay and you 'll see people selling mats for riccia or mosswalls for $10 and it's like a 12"x12" square. I'm just experimenting to see which method is better for moss. I'm assuming the fishing line one will grow out faster, but I think the scrubby net one will stay attached better and be a lot easier to trim and move. We'll see

That's it for now. Enjoy my randomness

I like your "randomness"

The pic of the cherry shrimps is great!

I have often wondered if anyone has tried hair nets for the java moss?!

hair nets would be fine for Java moss I'm sure. not sure if they'd work well for riccia since the holes are a bit bigger, but that "flaw" would actually be a good thing for use with moss since I'm sure it'll take a bit for the moss to grow through the netting I used.

oh, I just noticed in one of those pictures you can see a blurry "cameo" done by one of those leopard Goodeids I got from the box exchange. Very pretty fish, and so far I haven't noticed any of the aggresive nature people have noted. They are young still , however, so only time will tell. I'll have to try and get some better pictures of these guys as I love their color pattern.
