I just wanted to thank everyone who brought plants to last week's meeting for the mini auction. It really got me looking forward to the implementation of the HAP program.
I planted my Rotala Indica and the vallisneria in my 10 gallon tanks and it was an instant transformation. Now the challenge will be to keep everything alive. |

Speaking as someone who donated a large bunch of plants and that it was the very first things I have donated I am glad people were happy with what they got.
What is the status on a HAP program? How does it work? |

Work in progress and not sure if any progress is being made. Basically we will probably re-vamp another on kind of like we did for BAP. Not sure if anything is actively being doen at the moment or not. Good question. I have propagated many plants that I would have like to have submitted.

Okay, Jack, how do you propogate plants? Mine either stay the same size or disappear!

The HAP has already been configured for our use. It's ready to go for the most part. What it needs is someone to take it and run with it. I was the one who converted it to our club, but I turned down the responsibility of actually running the thing. Sorry guys. /shame

Thanks Luke for your clippings of Rotala Indica. I hope I'm not out of line when I say that I hope there are more at the next meeting - If I can keep what I got alive I will be looking for more
I am more than willing to help with HAP I just don't know much about the different plants. So if what is needed now is someone to do record keeping I would be more than happy to volunteer. |

I am glad you liked the clippings.
I am probably going to work to increase my stock of plants so that I can bring a large group of them to the next major auction in June, so there likely won't be any at the meetings till after that... |

it needs someone (no offense) who has a fairly extensive knowledge of aquatic plants, for verification, etc. Someone who can be at each meeting (or most of them) to verify. This is why I couldn't do it at the time, as I couldn't be at every meeting for sure at the time.
Lest anyone be confused - it's not a "don't trust the propegator" scenario, it's more of a "we don't want one persons misidentification of a plant to spread that plant around to countless other hobbyists mislabeled" This has happened with many plants and several of them are called by the wrong name to this day. That said, there is also need of someone to do the bookeeping to track the points just like the BAP. (I think I just always assumed it would be one person doing both, but it'd be easier to have it split) |

So...unless we find a person with "fairly extensive knowledge" of aquatic plants with the willingness to commit their time to our club...we won't be able to HAP plants, but will still be able to donate them to the auctions to be sold (with or without the right name).
Somehow I doubt such knowledgeable persons are easy to come by... |

we have one I can think of that, last I recall, was always at the meetings. *cough* brad *cough* lol
*edit* I want to be clear in that this is the same thing we do for the BAP. Luckily this club has far more people available who are very knowledgable in fish, but there aren't very many stringent restrictions on donated fish auctions, but for the BAP the club recognizes the need to positively ID the fish prior to giving points/passing them along to other hobbyists. If I'm wrong on this, please let me know, but this is what I've drawn from the discussions on the subject I've garnered. To be honest, this club has given me a lot in the way of knowledge, help, heck even steep discounts on fish from local breeders in the club, so I would be more than willing to make sure I have time to get to the meetings going forward to get this HAP thing going, because since myself and others started getting a lot more people involved with planted tanks and Jack grew his jungle out, I do believe there is a real need for this in our club. If no one else is available for this, I will certainly take it on. I just couldn't do it for certain last year when I wrote it up. |

I have made a followup thread here:
www.kcfishclub.org/top-forum/15-plants/2...hat-will-happen.html HAP can be discussed there to keep things more clear than this embedded discussion |

I would do it if we can wait to get it going for a little bit. I graduate May 1st and hope to start going to meetings. But I am still looking for a job as well

I surely appreciated whoever brought the vallesneria. And Luke, your plants were great too! I filled up a 55 with the vals and hygros that Greg gave me...problem is, now I need more for a 38 I'm moving upstairs!
